First AgriClimateChange meeting
Experts gather in Spain with the objective of making agriculture more sustainable
The project AgriClimateChange was launched in september 2010. The first meeting of the LIFE+ project was organised in Spain by one of the members of the project, the Consejería de Agricultura y Agua de la Región de Murcia, and it took place on 20-21 september 2010 at IMIDA (Murcia Institute of Research and Agricultural Development).
The regional minister for Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, opened the event pointing out that agriculture plays a key role in combating climate change and emphasized the importance of providing consumers with information about the CO2 emissions generated during the production process of the food they purchase.
Organisations from France, Germany, Italy and Spain will participate in this project and apply a common methodology to evaluate greenhouse gases emissions and energy consumption, in order to involve farms in climate change mitigation. This common methodology will be based on the “Planete” programme developed by Solagro, French partner of the project, and “Less CO2”, developed by another partner: Región de Murcia (Spain).
