The Comunità Montana (mountain conservation and development authority) covers a wide rural area, with more than 100,000 inhabitants and associating 13 municipalities, eight of which are located in the surroundings of Lake Trasimeno and five in the middle Tiber valley.
This public body is in charge of sustainable local development under a national and regional law and is responsible for the Lake Trasimeno Regional Park. Moreover, it has developed projects for the promotion of local enterprises in the field of traditional food supply chains and environmental tourism. More than 100 firms were involved in these projects, all of which signed an Environmental Pact based on sustainable activities to be undertaken by all the participants.
With the Local Agenda 21 Energy Forum the Comunità Montana has introduced a local energy action plan and it has promoted a number of projects aimed at improving the local energy cycles in terms of efficiency, self-renewable energy production, innovation and new business opportunities supporting local sustainable development.
In this context the “AgriClimateChange” LIFE+ project can enhance agricultural activities in Italy and in Umbria and support local farms in their evaluation of the energy balance and in the adoption of sustainable best practices, thus improving climate conditions.
